Jakarta, Duniafintech.com – It is known that the famous company Shopee in the buying and selling market has closed its offices in a number of Latin American countries.
Based on reports Reuters Quoting three sources as saying, the company has closed its domestic operations in Chile, Colombia and Mexico, and completely shut down in Argentina.
Reuters writes that Shopee will continue to maintain cross-border operations in the first three markets. But it will cut most of its team in those countries, affecting dozens of employees.
In the meantime, the Brazilian market, the dominant country of Shopee, will not be affected by this policy, according to Sunday (9/11-2022).
“Given the current increasing overall uncertainty,” companies need to “focus resources on core operations” and decide to focus on cross-border models in Shopee Mexico, Colombia and Chile, said Shopee CEO Chris Fing in an email to employees.

Reuters added that the email confirmed the closures in the Mexican, Colombian, Chilean and Argentine markets. Shopee has also confirmed that it will focus on cross-border models in Mexico, Colombia and Chile, in addition to closing its offices in Argentina.

The lockdown follows a similar policy in March that hit India and France. In June, the company eliminated jobs across its e-commerce and food delivery divisions in Southeast Asia and Latin America.
Dozens of people have reportedly lost their jobs at Shopee over the past two weeks. The cancellation occurred when the prospective employee was only waiting for the time to officially work.

Meanwhile, Sea Game console, Shopee’s parent company, has been notified that an employee at Sea Garena will be released.
The project in the Al Bahar Development Unit has also been closed. Sea has reported increasing financial losses and extremely slow revenue growth.
