Microsoft Surface Duo and Duo 2 get September 2022 Android security patches

Microsoft is one of the few Android phone makers that push the latest Android security patches in a timely manner. The software giant is now rolling out the September 2022 Android security patches for the first generation Surface Duo and Surface Duo 2.

Unfortunately, the official changelog does not highlight the vulnerabilities that the latest update is trying to fix. Apart from security fixes, it does not include any other changes, nor are there new features. However, if you are using a Surface Duo or Duo 2, you should install it right away on your device, as it comes with fixes for serious security holes. In the meantime, you can check out the official changelog below.

It’s worth noting that these firmware updates are being rolled out in phases, which means that not all Surface Duo and Duo 2 devices will be updated at the same time. However, the latest firmware version will eventually be delivered to all Surface devices. But before you go ahead and download it, here are three things you should be careful about:

  1. Software updates cannot be uninstalled or rolled back to a previous version.
  2. When you install the latest update, you’ll also get all previous updates if your Surface doesn’t already have them. Only updates that apply to Surface Duo will be downloaded and installed.
  3. After installing the updates, click Restart now.

If you own a Surface Duo or Duo 2, did you receive the update? If yes, you can share your experience in the comments section about your opinion of the latest firmware.
