iPhone 14 Looks Like iPhone 13 Pro – Here’s Why

With the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro launching looming, we’re seeing more last-minute details pop up in the lead-up to Apple’s “Far Out” event in September. The 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max are clearly set to steal the spotlight from the standard models, with a new report confirming that the base models don’t get the A16 upgrade.

According to a report from The Wall Street Journal (Across Mac rumors), the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus will use an “improved version” of the A15 Bionic – the chip found in the iPhone 13. If true, it would be the first time the Cupertino tech giant has maintained an annual chip upgrade exclusively for Pro models, and it could be a trend Repeatedly for the future iPhone lineup.

While it’s unclear how “improving” the A15 Bionic will be, word is all over town that it will be the iPhone 13 Pro version of the chip. This includes a five-core GPU that delivers a 25% increase in graphics performance compared to the standard iPhone 13 (quad-core GPU). Other than that, it still has the same hexa-core CPU, which means the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus will have the same performance as the iPhone 13.

This isn’t the first time we’ve heard of an A16 shortage in the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus, as famous Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo mentioned that only iPhone 14 Pro models will come with the upgraded A16 processor earlier this year. He also notes that all iPhones will come with 6GB of RAM, but only the Pro models will get a bump to LPDDR5 RAM, while the standard models will again use LPDDR4X RAM.

As you’ll find in Galaxy S22 vs. iPhone 13 and Pixel 6 Pro vs. iPhone 13 Pro, among others, the A15 chip clears the floor when it comes to performance with a long shot. Even the A14 chip in the iPhone 12 and the A13 in my iPhone SE (2020) continues to shine.

However, that’s another reason why many are skipping the iPhone 14, and possibly switching over from the iPhone 14 Pro (even though the $100 price hike feels like a lock). However, nothing is set in stone, and it won’t be long until we get the full details at Apple’s event tomorrow. Oh, and don’t forget about the Apple Watch Series 8 and the possible announcement of the AirPods Pro 2.
